Language buzzings
Yesterday's request for Python refactoring tools hasn't brought me a lot of hope -- I guess I'll go look at Bicycle Repair Man. While browsing today, I found Matz's slides on his plans for Ruby 2.0, and a pointer to an FreeRIDE, an IDE for Ruby. As part of the section on refactoring there's an explanation of how to accomplish refactoring in dynamic languages.
If James can figure out how to get Groovy integrated with Eclipse so that Eclipse can refactor Groovy code, that would give Groovy a nice lift -- but I'm getting ahead of myself here. I did a little playing with Groovy during this month's SeaJUG presentation, and in the course of doing it discovered a bug. So there's still quite a bit of work to do, but I'm still excited about what I see and what the potential is. Today's comment from Dan Weinreb is well taken, and my interest in Groovy is precisely because of some of the points that he made. It's not every day that an old time Lisp hacker stops by the blog.
