Buried inside Tim Bray's commentary on the DNC bloggers was this quote:

And I think blogs are at their most interesting, and their most different from everything that came before, when they’re by doers, not commentators.

Blogs are one way of making the networks of private conversations visible. The doers have always had their private networks, while the commentators try to dig them up and get the scoop on what the doers are up to. Now portions of those networks can be visible to all. In Jeff Waugh's Python Lightning talk on Planet, he pointed out that post Planet, many GNOME developers were writing stuff on their blogs because they knew other GNOME developers would be reading what was happening on Planet GNOME. I hope doers will find additional ways to use blogs in service of the goal of doing more and better.
