Back in town
I'm back from my trip to OSAF, which was super packed. I had some great spontaneous activities -- a four hour dinner with Stuart Parmenter (as Julie has already chronicled), and a few really helpful discussions with Mimi Yin, our user interface designer.
The experience of spending a week at OSAF is kind of like what happens at conferences or sprints. I have a highly concentrated amount of intense face to face time, which then improves the relationships while we work virtually.
These trips are giving me a lot of respect for people who have to travel a lot for a living. I don't think that I could do it -- it takes a bit out of me. The tension around whether or not I"ll make the ferry for the last leg home is something I could do without. I haven't quite mastered scheduling the return flight so that I have a shot a getting home at a good time. Last trip I came home Friday during the day which was easier on getting home, but that killed Friday as a work day.
