Ted Leung on the air: Open Source, Java, Python, and ...
Reader Ben Kowarsch wrote to say that Zeroconf service discovery is now working in Asterisk. This is pretty cool. Now that we are a multi Macintosh household, Zeroconf/Bonjour based services are rising in appeal/importance. There is even an RSS feed for news on the project.
Ever since my co-worker Morgen pointed me to this great article on building a cheap Asterisk pbx, I've had it on my (long) list of things to try. The key factor was the cheapness of the POTS converter cards recommended by the article. Given the amount of remote work/long distance calling that I do for work, it seems like a no brainer.
Or does it? I was on a POTS conference call yesterday afternoon during a thunderstorm. We did have a momentary power loss (< 60 sec), but many of the boxes in the house did reboot. POTS on the other hand, didn't skip a beat -- I'm sure that no one in the office knew that anything had happened on my end.
