Aggregator statistics now on the main blog page
For all the aggregator writers out there: I've updated the pyblosxom logstats plugin to keep track of hits to my RSS feed. The usage statistics appear in the right hand column of the HTML version of the blog. Be aware that the ETag handling in pyblosxom will only update the ETag if a new post or comment is entered, so you may need to do a full reload of the page to see the statistics. This functionality is experimental for now.

Hello Ted
i tried my aggregator to get listed in the static log, but had no success. As User-Agent i did send "wTicker/0.2.1.95". Is there something i am missing?
Best regards
Christian

Christian,
User agents are listed according to how many times they are used to retreive the RSS feed. My server logs show hits from wTicker, but you need to amass more hits than the lowest ranking aggregator (68 hits right now) to show up on the list.

Ted,
Are these stats for "raw" hits per user-agent, or are they adjusted by originating IP or something? (like Mark did last year)
The reason I ask is that the default refresh-rate may be different per aggregator, skewing the results. SharpReader by default refreshes every hour; if RssBandit or NewsGator only refresh every other hour by default, this would make SharpReader seem a lot more popular than it really is...

Luke,
These are raw hits. Hit frequency, 304's vs 200's and unique IP's are not accounted for. If you have ideas for a better way to present this info, let me know. I could do it by like 1 200 per unique ip per day, but that's decent amount of book keeping in the CGI.
