If you are using Fink on OS X, and you are having problems with dylibs not getting built, you should check to see if you have a $HOME/.magic
file. Apparently you can mess up the file
command so that it doesn't recognize shared library files. I've been having enormous problems building gettext (when fink upgraded), and this was a non-obvious problem. Needless to say, my .magic
file is going out the window. If you want to see the gory details, here's the bug report (and reply).
