Groovy JSR
Ok, so the news on the Groovy JSR is out, just in time for my SeaJUG talk tonight. Between Tim Bray's comment's yesterday, the Ask Joel thread on Python, Russell's wistful thinking on Java without semi-colons (semi-colons optional in Groovy), and this quote from Guy Steele, I'm looking forward to a lively discussion tonight.

Do you know if anyone is planning to drive over from Seattle, and might be willing to to take a passenger?
I tried signing up for the SeaJUG list a few days ago, so I could ask this, but I just got a "waiting for moderator approval message".
Thanks

You forgot the bile ;)
What does Groovy offer that Jython and Rhino don't?

Robert,
I missed the bile in yesterday's AM blog sweep. It was lively enough without it.
As for Jython's failings: an inactive development community, and a lack of closures or continuations.
As for Rhino, lack of macros (only a maybe that they get into Groovy, less likly if it goes to the JCP), and the need to be compatible w/ JavaScript, although I know they've already broken that with continuations.
