This weekend I discovered another drawback of gas mowers: The engine block gets hot. While checking to see if mulch was clogging the mower, I accidentally touched the engine block, leaving a nice burn on my arm:

The link to the picture's broken - but I've touched the mower's engine block before, and it's not fun. Instant blisters. I used to wear leather work gloves when I mowed the lawn; they soften the vibration of the handle a bit, and have the further benefit of helping prevent burns.

Back when I were a lad, growing up on Vancouver Island, loggers would show off by frying up some eggs for lunch on the casing of their chainsaw. Really greasy... ;-)
