I promise that this is not turning into a photo blog, but I have been doing a bunch of photo stuff instead of cranking out tech blog posts. Thursday I hopped over to Seattle for the Seattle Flickr Meetup. I've also been experimenting with Strobist ideas, which yielded this
after I read this post on Strobist.
What flash did you use? How did you set it up?

Ted, keep up the photo posting! We techies need some creative outlet outside of the lines of code we produce. Thanks for some great pictures.

Tim,
Thanks for the encouragement!
Chris,
The flash was a Canon 580EX off camera (using the off camera cord), manual mode, either 1/128 or 1/64, I can't remember which -- did a bunch of shots at different powers. The camera was on a tripod with was the Canon 100mm Macro. The faucet is our kitchen sink, and you can see the blurred backsplash. The exposure data is in the Flickr EXIF. The only other trick was adjusting the water flow to capture the individual drops -- I turned it on slowly until I had the full diagonal stream, but just enough to do that.

This is a nice shot. Almost looks like bubbles underwater. The 580 EX flashes are great. If you have more than one you can use their infrared wireless system. It works fine at close range. That was smart of you to use your camera flash off of the camera.
