Ferry wireless is on the way
On the way back from tonight's weblogger meetup in Seattle, I popped open the PowerBook to work on this (and other posts). I thought to myself "I can't wait until they get the wireless network working on the boat". Imagine my surprise when I was prompted to join the "RoamAlways Default Network Name". Unfortunately, it's not quite there yet, as there were no nameservers available. They're probably in the early stages of their build out. Still, it's encouraging that someday I might be able to catch my e-mail from the boat.

Yeah but they will probably charge an arm and a leg for it. There is a free node in the Downtown Bremerton Library and one when you get off the ferry at the coffee shop on the pedestrian bridge. I usually check my email and download some pages to read at those points.

I think at least throught this summer it'll be free as a pilot program. After that, we'll see. If noboday pays to use it, well...
I don't know how often I'd pay to use it, since I use the ferry so infrequently now. But it'd be nice to have in a pinch, and if I commuted regularly, I might.
Good to know about the coffee shop on the Seattle side, though.
